Behind the Music: Our Songwriting Approach

Emotionally compelling music doesn’t just happen – it’s crafted.  At Tavia Collective, we bring together a team of collaborators with diverse perspectives, experiences and skill sets to create music for film, TV, and other media.  Whether it’s a tender moment in a drama or the energy of a party scene, our songs are built to support the story and drive the scene forward.  Our partners span different ages, genders, cultures and locations, giving each song a voice that is universally relatable.

Songwriting Approach & Inspiration

Every song begins with intentional research.  We study how music for film and television enhances scenes, identifying emotionally-rich themes to explore.  We then make lists of potential themes and draft lyrics to match our “concept songs.”

Often, we develop several melodic or lyrical options for a single track before selecting the strongest one.  Once the direction is set, we build the arrangement around it, drawing on carefully chosen reference songs.  We deconstruct these references for inspiration, studying song structure, variation, dynamic builds, edit points, and sting endings- all with the goal of making each track sync-ready for music supervisors.

While we incorporate electronic elements, we almost always include at least one live instrument (often guitar) to provide warmth and authenticity to the production.

The Thrill of Creating

Every song we create reflects Tavia Collective’s dedication, creativity, and diversity.  Supervisors, directors, and producers can rely on our tracks to deliver professional quality, multiple listening options, and the ability to align with a variety of creative visions.  

For us, making music is both a craft and a thrill.  One of our dream projects would be to spend 48 hours in the studio producing multiple tracks across genres and themes- the kind of challenge that excites and inspires our team.
